EMAIL PROBLEMS
| Many of our coaches and Team Commissioners have an AOL or VERIZON based email address. Both of these services are presently blocking our mass mailings, so you ARE NOT receiving our messages unless you have an alternate address at work or home. We have had such problems in the past, and I anticipate we will have them continuing into the future. See the Site News page for more information on the blocking of our email. This is a new problem pervading the Internet in which the "mega-corporations" are dictating, to you, (the person that pays them money for a service), who you can receive mail from and who they will block at their whim and fancy. This doesn't involve just email, they are also deciding what content you may access through their service and what you can't. Once again, you pay them money to have them tell you what you can and cannot do. For those interested there is more information at this link: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/17/the-raggie-grannies-greet-the-fcc/?hp If you create another email address , it would allow you to receive club mailings. Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail all offer free web based, reliable email services. Though they sometimes place our mail in the SPAM or JUNK folder, THEY DON'T BLOCK IT COMPLETELY like VERIZON and AOL. We have a page of instructions HERE that explains how to deal with our email being sent to such folders. Please, consider getting one of these free email addresses for use with AYLC mailings, and let the webmaster know of your new address. Thank you.

Team Commissioners Responsibilities Checklist
| The "AYLC Team Commissioners Responsibilities Checklist" is a succinct enumeration of their tasks. Many tasks are "one time"; some entail periodic conveyance of information or "things"; a few are delegated; and others must be personally performed. All tasks are simple, requiring only a few minutes of instruction prior to performance. Punctual performance is vital to the smooth functioning of each team. Relieving coaches of these administrative details gives them more time to concentrate on coaching. IMPORTANT! Please read this information on neck injuries.
| This information was forwarded to the club by our long-time coach Spencer Norcross. It is imperative that you read it. NEW YORK (Reuters Health), Oct 27, 2006 Lacrosse players with a suspected neck injury should leave their helmets and shoulder pads on until they can be removed "in a controlled fashion" by professionals because removal can cause a potentially a (sic) harmful shift in spinal alignment, according to a new study. Dr. Paul S. Sherbondy from the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, University Park, PA, and colleagues studied 16 Division 1 lacrosse players to evaluate how helmet and shoulder pads affected their cervical spine alignment. Each player had a CT scan with equipment in place, with no equipment, and with the helmet removed. While wearing the equipment, the researchers found, the athletes' cervical spines were extended. Removing the helmet caused the neck to flex forward, while the cervical spine was more flexed in athletes wearing shoulder pads only, compared with those wearing no protective equipment. Studies of football and hockey players have found that while protective equipment didn't affect spinal alignment, removing equipment led to increased extension of the cervical spine, the researchers note in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Based on those findings, the studies' authors recommended that football and hockey players with neck injuries be "immobilized with both the shoulder pads and helmets left in place." Because any movement of the cervical spine can aggravate an injury, Sherbondy and colleagues conclude, the same approach should be used with neck injury in lacrosse players. "We would therefore recommend that the helmet and shoulder pads be left in place until they can be removed in the controlled environment of an emergency department," they conclude.
