| DONATIONS AND FUND RAISING INFORMATION |
- What is the best way to make a donation or contribution to the Arlington Youth Lacrosse Club?
Use the link to our Paypal Donation Page on the Site News Page or mail a check or Money Oreder as described below. AYLC is a a registered charitable organization under Internal Revenue Code Sec. 501©. We gratefully accept any donations that we receive at any time. You may contribute a donation in any amount, throughout the year. Your donations are tax-deductible and you will receive a receipt reflecting the amount of your donation. Mail your contribution to: AYLC, Inc., PO Box 5200, Arlington, VA 22205. - What is my donation used for?
Your generous contributions go to the support of scholarships for underprivileged players, equipment purchases, training of coaches and the training of "junior" referees. - Will my donation affect my child's assignment to a team?
Donations to our organization DO NOT affect a player's assignment to a team, or how they will be treated as a player. The Club Commissioner is the only individual with knowledge of donations given and donation amounts. - Is my donation refundable?
Donations are NOT refundable if a registered player withdraws from the organization. If AYLC cannot accept a Spring Competitive Season registrant because of over subscription, a return of your donation may be requested. - Why does AYLC need additional money?
Simply put, the registration fee paid by each player does not cover the club expenses for each player's participation. - What are the club's expenses?
The club pays for insurance, league and referee fees, goals, nets and field line paint, balls and boys and girls uniforms. (Boys equipment costs about $200 per set, and we must buy replacements for worn out equipment each year. Girls use less equipment, but their sticks and uniforms are more expensive than boys.) The club has administrative expenses such as photocopying and postage for our various mailings, post office box rental, telephone and computer expenses, the end of season picnics and awards for all players. In addition, the club provides scholarships for those players whose families cannot afford to pay the registration fees. We do not pay Arlington County for use of its fields, other than for summer camps. Once again, we ask you to make a tax deductible contribution to AYLC. Please mail it to: AYLC, P.O. Box 5200, Arlington, VA 22205.
| ABOUT OUR EMAIL LISTS - EMAIL FAQ SECTION |
PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR NAME IN ANY ADD ME OR REMOVE ME EMAIL REQUEST FOR CLARITY. |
ADD AN EMAIL ADDRESS TO OUR MAILING LIST To add an email address to our email list, send an email to us. Put the words ADD ME in the email's SUBJECT LINE, and place the email address you wish added to our list in the body of the message, and INCLUDE your name for clarity. NOTE: please state RESIDENT or NON-RESIDENT (of Arlington County) in the body of the message. Our address is:
|
PLEASE DON'T SEND EMAIL TO THE WEBMASTER, UNLESS YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO SEND SOMETHING. The webmaster IS NOT an official of the Arlington Youth Lacrosse Club. He only handles web site work, online registration tasks and email list management and delivery tasks. He knows very little about club policies and procedures, therefore he is not qualified to give you a definitive response to a question. If you have a question, please look first for an answer in this FAQ page. If your question isn't answered here, call the AYLC LAX line at 703-524-4529. Someone will respond to your question as soon as possible. Remember, the club is comprised of volunteer workers, so it may be a day or two or more before you get a response. |
EMAIL ADDRESS CHANGES? HAVE YOU CHANGED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS - PLEASE NOTIFY US. If at any time during the year your email address should change, please let us know. The easiest way is to send a REMOVE ME request for the old address, and then an ADD ME request for the new address. include your name somewhere in the emails for accurate identification. Thanks. |
WHY WE ASK FOR AN ALTERNATE EMAIL ADDRESS. To increase our chances of getting information to Fall Clinic, Summer Camps or Spring Competitive Season participants, please include a second NON-WORK RELATED email address where you can be contacted. We have had trouble with spam clients intercepting our email messages, server "glitches" and other problems. Some corporations also block our messages for "security reasons". Since emails may need to be sent as late as Friday or Saturday during the week; a work email address only will leave you uninformed of updates or changes you should know about. Take a few minutes to create a free email address. Go to Yahoo.com to do it. It is generally considered to be the best FREE email service available on the Internet. |
WHY AYLC ASKS ABOUT ARLINGTON COUNTY RESIDENCY DURING THE EMAIL "ADD ME" PROCESS Unfortunately, only residents of Arlington County are eligible to play with our organization during the NVYLL Spring Competitive Season. This is determined by NVYLL League Regulations. However, any child no older than 18 years of age is eligible to participate in our Summer Camps or our Fall Clinic. We ask you to state non-resident during the "ADD ME" process so we know not to send you emails re the Spring Competitive Season. WHY YOU MIGHT OCCASIONALLY RECEIVE DUPLICATE EMAIL MESSAGES FROM AYLC Because AYLC is involved with Spring Competitive Season, Summer Camps and Fall Clinics, we have to maintain different sections of our mailing list according to specific criteria for each area of participation, especially in regard to age. Different mailings, of necessity, go to different groups throughout the year, and some of our participants will be listed in more than one category. We will get better at "weeding out" the duplicate messages over time. Meanwhile, please bear with us and accept the fact that you will, at times, receive more than one copy of a given email. Our system is already better than it ever was. SPECIAL NOTE: MANAGERS AND COACHES. If you are an official of our club, or one of our teams, and have a child or children in the program, you WILL get duplicate emails at times. AYLC cannot afford to spend money on a "more sophisticated" email system that might still suffer the same problems as ours currently does. Please grin and bear it. HOW WE MANAGE THE EMAIL LIST. We have multiple codes we use to control our mailings. These include: - S**SU - Current Spring Season participants. (SU = "signups")
- F**SU - Current Fall Clinic participants. (SU = "signups")
- SS - Prior Spring Season participants. (To let eligible candidates "know" about an upcoming Spring Season registration.)
- EV - Former Fall Clinic and Summer Camps participants. (To let eligible candidates "know" about registration for these upcoming events.)
- Other lists of no interest to you.
ABOUT REMOVE ME REQUESTS If you wish to stop receiving all AYLC notifications please just do as instructed in the info blurb at the top of our mailings. Include your name. However, if your child(ren) are no longer eligible for Spring Season play, but you still wish to be notified about camps and clinic activities, please SPECIFY in the REMOVE email: Remove from Spring Season only. That will insure you continue to receive announcements re camps and clinics.

Please visit our volunteer page for more information. You'll find it in the menu heading. http://www.aylc.org/volunteer.htm - How can I register for the Fall Clinic?***
AYLC uses an online registration process through a company called ACTIVE.COM. NOTE: We no longer accept "paper" registrations. Online registration is the only acceptable method for enrolling. Registration for the Fall Clinic usually opens before June of the same year that the clinic will be held. - How can I sign up for a car pool?***
In the past, AYLC relied on coaches and Team Managers to handle car pool information. We now have a message forum on the web site devoted to sharing car pooling information. A link to that forum is near the top of this page. We hope that this forum will serve to facilitate ride sharing for the parents and participants. If you don't have any luck using the message forum, then follow our previous process that governed car-pooling. Requests for child placement on teams with a friend, neighbor, classmate or for "car pooling" should be expressed directly to the Team Managers at the beginning of the season when team selection is occurring. Be aware - there are certain constraints, such as: age levels, ability levels, days & practice times for the respective teams, among others, which may affect this process. PLEASE do not bother team coaches with questions about car pools. If you continue to have difficulty arranging for ride sharing please call 703-524-4529. Someone will respond as quickly as they can. - How can I register for the Spring Competitive Season?

Please report ANY errors, even misspellings. We try to be as accurate as possible. - How does the lacrosse "annual cycle" work?
Lacrosse is a spring sport meaning its competitive playing season starts in February/March with practices. Actual competitive games usually begin in April, and the season usually lasts til mid-June. This is generally the only time of the year the youngsters are affiliated with an actual team ** . Lacrosse has a relatively short season compared to other popular sports, so we include other "offerings" for experiencing lacrosse at other times through the year. During July we offer day and evening Summer Camps for boys and girls. These camps are held in cooperation with Marymount University, and take place at their beautiful sports facility. Day and evening camps are offered to best accommodate parents schedules. There aren't any actual games played, but scrimmages are run, simulating games, which serve to offer additional guidance in the skills and techniques that make a great lacrosse player. In the fall, AYLC offers our well-known Fall Clinic, which has continuously grown in size and popularity since 1993. Experienced collegiate lacrosse players instruct youngsters with both "team" drills and personalized, individual instruction. Special 9th to 12th grade sections for novice players wishing to gain the necessary skills to participate on high school lacrosse teams. Finally, for those die-hard players, there are offerings in the wintertime too. See our page for off-season activities. (The red link just below this line.) Off-Season Leagues and Games ** This applies to the lacrosse session offerings of AYLC. The exception is "teams" formed in groups by Triple Edge, and perhaps some of the other organizations mentioned on the Off-Season Leagues and Games page. - How long does the Spring Competitive Season run? When does the lacrosse season start?
The Spring Competitive Season starts in late February or early March ( with practice sessions ) and runs through mid-June. Regular season game play usually starts in early April. - How many games does AYLC play in a regular season?***
Historically, each team has played 8 games with approximately half of them on our home field. No games are played on Easter and Memorial Day week-ends. However, practices are scheduled during school spring vacations - How many youths play on each team?***
Usually between 16 and 24 individuals are on a team. We generally try for twenty per team, if possible. - How many teams does AYLC have?***
In the 2005 Spring Competitive Season, AYLC fielded six teams. Two girls teams and four boys teams. A number of those teams, two boys and two girls teams made it to the championships. One of the boys teams won their division in the NVYLL. In the 2006 Spring Competitive Season, AYLC fielded eight teams. - How much does it cost to play lacrosse with AYLC?

No, a new form must be submitted for the year's Fall Clinic sessions. - What are the age levels for each team?***
The age of the team players is determined by their date of birth as of December 31st of the previous respective year. ( E.G. For Spring Competitive Season 2006, the age determination date is Dec. 31, 2005 ). - Boys Under 9 - hereafter referred to as: BU09

- Girls Under 11 - hereafter referred to as: GU11
- Girls Under 13 - hereafter referred to as: GU13
- Girls Under 15 - hereafter referred to as: GU15
Sometimes, age adjustments are made and some youths may be "bumped up", to accommodate team needs and adjustments. AYLC always tries hard to find a spot for your child to play; unfortunately, there have been times when a child had to be turned away due to the lack of qualified, available team coaches. - What are the deadlines for registration? Are there registration deadlines?***
Yes we have deadlines for registration for both the Spring Competitive Season and the Fall Clinic. The deadline for the Spring Competitive Season is usually February 15th of the season year. Since establishment of the non-profit Arlington Youth Lacrosse Club, Inc., in 1988, each spring the club has sold various products as its major fund-raising activity. Over the years the percentage of players selling and the revenue derived from this effort decreased. As a result, in 1999 we began a different fund-raising approach, a "painless fund-raiser". We asked parents to make a tax deductible contribution to the club if they or their children did not sell food items. This was quite successful in 1999 and 2000; we raised more money with the "painless fund-raiser" than was our commission from past food sale fund-raisers, and it was a whole lot easier for all concerned. - What is the menu bar?
Throughout this web site you will find references to the menu bar. The term menu bar refers to the listing of links just below our logo on almost every page on this web site. Here's what it looks like: - What is the scroll bar?
