TEAM MANAGERS RESPONSIBILITIES CHECKLIST The "AYLC Team Managers Responsibilities Checklist" is a list of the tasks expected and required of the Team Manager. Many tasks are "one time"; some entail periodic conveyance of information or "things"; a few are delegated; and others must be personally performed. All tasks are simple, requiring only a few minutes of instruction prior to performance. Punctual performance is vital to the smooth functioning of each team. Relieving coaches of these administrative details gives them more time to concentrate on coaching. REQUIRED: NVYLL COACH'S CODE OF CONDUCT AND COACH'S SURVEY Coaches that fail to complete the form cannot be on the sidelines with the team. Failure to adhere to this requirement will lead to a game forfeiture. IMPORTANT: Completion of the NVYLL Code of Conduct DOES NOT exempt you from completing the REQUIRED Arlington County Background Check form. This is a separate requirement. It has nothing to do with the NVYLL league, but is actually a REQUIREMENT for coaches and others in contact with youngsters on Arlington County property. Those who do not complete this background check are subject to EJECTION from county property by county officials. Please do not embarass yourself and the Arlington Youth Lacrosse Club by failing to complete this simple process which you will be asked to do on the "ACTION" page. To register with the NVYLL go to http://www.nvyll.org Look in the left hand portion of the screen at the list of choices and select REGISTER ONLINE. On the next screen click on the BEGIN REGISTRATION BUTTON. Follow the directions to SIGN IN. (Get a temp password if you need to.) From here on the process is pretty self-explanatory. IMPORTANT! Please read this information on neck injuries. This information was forwarded to the club by our long-time coach Spencer Norcross. It is imperative that you read it. NEW YORK (Reuters Health), Oct 27, 2006 Lacrosse players with a suspected neck injury should leave their helmets and shoulder pads on until they can be removed "in a controlled fashion" by professionals because removal can cause a potentially a (sic) harmful shift in spinal alignment, according to a new study. Dr. Paul S. Sherbondy from the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, University Park, PA, and colleagues studied 16 Division 1 lacrosse players to evaluate how helmet and shoulder pads affected their cervical spine alignment. Each player had a CT scan with equipment in place, with no equipment, and with the helmet removed. While wearing the equipment, the researchers found, the athletes' cervical spines were extended. Removing the helmet caused the neck to flex forward, while the cervical spine was more flexed in athletes wearing shoulder pads only, compared with those wearing no protective equipment. Studies of football and hockey players have found that while protective equipment didn't affect spinal alignment, removing equipment led to increased extension of the cervical spine, the researchers note in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Based on those findings, the studies' authors recommended that football and hockey players with neck injuries be "immobilized with both the shoulder pads and helmets left in place." Because any movement of the cervical spine can aggravate an injury, Sherbondy and colleagues conclude, the same approach should be used with neck injury in lacrosse players. "We would therefore recommend that the helmet and shoulder pads be left in place until they can be removed in the controlled environment of an emergency department," they conclude.
