The Arlington Youth Lacrosse Club (AYLC) is a parent sponsored and administered club run for the purpose of helping boys and girls learn the sport of lacrosse in a positive environment emphasizing the development of teamwork, sportsmanship and athletic skills. AYLC is a 501(c) charitable organization recognized for its excellence and commitment to the well-being and growth of the youths in the club programs. In this regard the club has had the following goals since inception in 1988: Promote the development of all participants' character, good sportsmanship and high self-esteem. Develop participants' lacrosse skills, general athletic ability and individual and team responsibility, all in a positive environment. Maintain the highest standard of safety for every participant. Encourage the growth of lacrosse in the local area. To answer some frequently asked questions regarding the club: AYLC fielded five teams for Boys and two teams for Girls last Spring season. Each team consists of approximately 20 players. Teams are divided into divisions which are separated by school grades. Boys Division III is grades 3 - 4, Boys Division II is grades 5 - 6, Boys Division I is grades 7 - 8. Girls Division II is grades 4 up to 6th, Girls Division I is grades 7 - 8 and novice 9th graders. Boys Division I & II and Girls Division I have ability levels. Our teams participate in the 24 Club Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League and play most of their games on the weekends, (Boys, Saturday: Girls, Sunday) at fields in Arlington and Fairfax. Our home field is on the North side of Kenmore Middle School at Route 50 and Carlin Spring Road. Equipment: Girls are provided with sticks for their first season, secured by a $50.00 deposit. Boys is secured by deposit and we encourage its retention by those who continue to play with AYLC in order to facilitate participation in clinics, camps, game leagues and Spring Season. If equipment is kept the $150.00 deposit is cashed and is refunded when the equipment is ultimately returned. We, at no cost, replace any equipment issued by AYLC that wears out or is outgrown. Lost or abused equipment will be replaced, or charged against the deposit according to the following rates: Helmet $70. Arm Pads $20. Shoulder Pads $25. Gloves $35. Girls Stick $50. Game uniforms for both Boys and Girls are secured by $50.00 deposit. The Spring season runs from early March to early June. In 2002 practice will be held at Bluemont Park, 4th and N. Manchester St., on week-ends in March and / or 2-3 times Monday – Friday from 5:30 – 7 PM. (Starting in April all practice will be late week-day afternoons.) Scholarships for registration are available at all grade levels. A Fall instructional clinic for Boys and Girls, grades 3 - 12, is held on five consecutive Sunday afternoons in September and October at Bluemont Park. Summer camps for Boys and Girls, grades 3 – 8, are held one week each in June and July at the same location in late afternoon, Monday – Friday. There are Summer, Fall and Winter games in leagues for experienced players with no scheduled practices, under the auspices of Advantage Lacrosse Corporation in Fairfax. Again, AYLC is a parent sponsored club run to benefit our children. We look for interested parents to help with our programs and fund raising activities. One of our main projects is promoting lacrosse in the Arlington County public high schools where it became a varsity sport for Boys and Girls for the first time in Spring 2000. (From 1994 through 1999 AYLC fielded High School Boys and Girls teams working toward the goal that these grade levels be absorbed into the public school system. This was accomplished in 1999 and we will no longer sponsor High School teams). QUESTIONS?
